CCSO: 5-year-old dies in Cumberland County house fire

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, fire department and EMS responded to the fire in the Westel community at around 5:22 p.m.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. — Update (1/8): 

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said a 5-year-old child is dead after a house fire in Cumberland County Sunday afternoon. 

CCSO, the Cumberland County Fire Department, the Cumberland County EMS and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents responded to the fire on 2074 Fall Creek Road around 5:22 p.m. The child's mother, 38-year-old Andrea Cox, was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. Her condition is unclear, according to CCSO. 

The child was identified by CCSO as Willow Carpenter.

CCSO extended their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones impacted by this incident. 

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is ongoing. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and CCSO are working to determine the cause of the fire, CCSO said.

10News reached out to CCSO and said the residence was occupied but could not information on injuries at this time.

CCSO said investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
