The FBI office in Knoxville honored a man who's committed his life to providing health care to those who can't afford it.
The Director's Community Leadership Award was given to Dr. Tom Kim on Tuesday. The annual award is given to someone who has gone above and beyond to serve the community.
Dr. Kim founded the Free Medical Clinic of America in south Knoxville 20 years ago. His mission-- to provide free health care to working people in the community who can't afford insurance.
The effort has expanded to include four additional clinics across East Tennessee.
The FBI says the award is something it takes seriously.
"We strongly believe in connecting with our community and this award is one way that we do that, by recognizing those in our communities who are so deserving and again, have gone above and beyond in service to the community," said Kenneth Moore, FBI Special Agent in Charge.
Dr. Kim says he is honored by the recognition. He will travel to Washington, DC later to meet the FBII director and receive the actual award.
