KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — South College will host a commencement ceremony for Fountainhead College of Technology students who completed their degrees in December after the technology school’s unexpected closure this fall in Knoxville.

The ceremony for 14 students will take place Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. at South College’s Parkside campus at 400 Goody’s Lane in West Knoxville.

Fountainhead College of Technology, which had been open for 71 years, shuttered Oct. 31.

Approximately 50 students were enrolled when the college closed, several of whom were scheduled to graduate upon completion of the fall semester Dec. 11.

For the students on track to graduate in December, South College provided classrooms and compensated faculty from the former technology school. South College will not convey the credits or degrees because of accreditation restrictions that would have delayed graduation.

Instead, the students will graduate with degrees from Fountainhead College of Technology as planned.

Fountainhead College of Technology students who needed multiple credit hours to graduate were able to pursue admission to South College and have previously earned credits evaluated for transfer.

A total of 31 Fountainhead College of Technology students made their way to South College after the closure.
