KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Three more stores are out at Knoxville Center Mall.
Spencer's, GameStop and Sprint are all leaving.
Hot Topic is having a big 50 percent off sale as it prepares to close as well.
But at least two businesses are having some success.
The Gilded Gown, which sells wedding and prom dresses, is expanding.
"We have over 1000 wedding gowns on the floor, from triple zero to 32," owner Jacqui Wadsworth said. "Our bridal has grown four times in the last four years, and it's basically pushed our prom right out of the building," Wadsworth said.
Wadsworth said because her store is destination shopping, she's doubled her space from about 6400 square feet to nearly 12,000.
"Foot traffic is wonderful, that's why we have to be strong on social media," Wadsworth said. "That is one of the reasons we engage.
Her growth comes as Sprint, Gamestop and Spencer's close.
"It's always good to see some success," Ronnie Collins said.
Collins is the president of the nearby Alice Bell Neighborhood Association.
"We're hoping--we're always hoping that things will turn around," Collins said.
He says The Gilded Gown's expansion and the December opening of Next Level Knoxville, a laser tag arena and event space, gives the neighborhood hope. But he wants to see more.
"There's been talk from them about some residential development on the property and stuff, Collins said. "We'd like to maybe see that start happening, not be three or four years before that happens."
For Wadsworth, she sees a profitable future.
"Locally owned businesses have huge opportunity in this mall. I'd love to see lots of other bridal businesses and wedding businesses move in our wing."
