ALCOA, Tenn. — Pickleball players in Blount County will have a chance to compete against each other while raising money to benefit the Friends of the Blount County Animal Center on Oct. 5.

The Smoky Mountain Pickleball Club said it would host a tournament at Bassel Courts in Alcoa, with all proceeds going to the animal center nonprofit. It will start at 8 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. There are 60 soliciting entries available for the tournament. Organizers also said they would take donations on the day of the tournament to benefit the center.

People should register to compete by Sept. 30. It costs $30 for people who aren't members of the pickleball club, and $20 for members. Players can register by reaching out to organizers at alisabcherry@gmail.com.

A flyer for the event also said there would be food trucks at the tournament. Donation boxes will also be set up for anyone who wants to give linens, towels and pet supplies. In case of rain, the tournament will move to Oct. 6 at the same location and follow the same timeframe.
