One person dead after house fire off Chapman Highway, authorities investigating

According to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, a person was reportedly missing after the fire. Later, authorities said a person had died.

SEYMOUR, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a fire that engulfed a home off Chapman Highway Monday morning.

According to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department, a person was missing after a house fire at the 12000 block of Chapman Highway around 6:15 a.m.  The VFD said the home was fully engulfed when they arrived.

A Sevier County spokesperson later said a person had died in the fire. Firefighters discovered the body after extinguishing the flames. 

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending an autopsy by the Knox County Regional Forensic Center. SCSO said it is investigating the fire alongside the Sevier County Fire Marshall's Office.
