Officials: Driver dead after head-on crash on Chapman Highway at Maples Road

The crash resulted in the closure of southbound lanes on Maples Road for some time on Monday.

SEYMOUR, Tenn. — Update (12/17): One person is dead after a crash on Chapman Highway at Maples Road on Monday afternoon, according to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.

A spokesperson with SVFD said the driver died after reaching the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The crash resulted in authorities closing southbound lanes for some time. The Tennessee Department of Transportation initially reported the incident as a "disabled vehicle."

All lanes have since been reopened.

A disabled vehicle on Chapman Highway Monday afternoon blocked southbound traffic before it reached Seymour, according to the state transportation department.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the disabled vehicle was reported at around 4:33 p.m. Eastern Time, near Burnett Station Road. Traffic was backed up on Chapman Highway to East Hendron Chapel Road.
