A Vietnam veteran from Virginia will receive a high military honor this weekend in East Tennessee.
Former Army Sgt. Larry Freeman of Pulaski, Va. will be awarded the Silver Star, 48 years after his actions in battle. Military officials said despite his wounds, Sgt. Freeman tended to injured comrades and helped his platoon reposition while under heavy enemy fire.
Sgt. Freeman will receive the award in a ceremony this Sunday at 1 p.m. at the River Terrace Resort and Convention Center in Gatlinburg.
