Sevierville board searching for bids on Kodak Smokies Stadium

Sevier County officials said they're open to a wide range of possibilities for the 30-acre plot.

KODAK, Tenn. — The Sevierville Industrial Development Board is developers to bid on proposals for the Kodak Smokies Stadium site.

As the baseball team looks ahead to its move into downtown Knoxville, officials said the Kodak site could be redeveloped into something completely different.

“I think we are open to any project that would get the property back on the tax rolls and be good for Sevier County, be good for our residents and be good for our tourists," said Allen Newton, the director of the Sevier County Economic Development Council. "We’re pretty open-minded about what it could be.”

He said that the site could be used for many different things including retail space, a multi-use development or a new attraction. Employees along Exit 407 said they would want the site to be turned into a Walmart, a casino or a shopping mall.

Newton said the board isn't currently asking for a specific price from developers. He did say that prices usually land in the area of about $750,000 an acre, which could put the Smokies Stadium value at over $21 million.

But Newton said they encourage developers to pitch their ideas, and how much they're willing to pay.
