SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — Sevier County High School students are safe after a lightning strike caused a small fire outside the Career and Technical Education building Wednesday morning, according to the Sevierville Police Department.
SPD said lightning ruptured a natural gas line on top of the CTE building. The Sevierville Fire Department responded to the scene and was able to put out the fire.
According to Sevier County High School, the fire affected the exterior of the building before any of the students arrived. They said utility services to the building suffered minor damage and the interior was unaffected.
Sevier County School System maintenance teams were at work repairing the damage and communicating with the state Fire Marshal’s office to secure re-occupancy, the school said.
