SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — A Sevierville spokesperson said a suspect was in custody Thursday afternoon after an "alleged incident" in Gatlinburg. After the incident, the spokesperson said the suspect tried to flee from authorities.
The Gatlinburg Police Department said it was an aggravated assault call, and while on the scene officers learned that the suspect stole the victim's car. The police department said it was seen on the 1200 block of East Parkway and tried to pull it over. However, they said the suspect refused to stop and police began chasing the car at around 3:30 p.m.
The chase ended near Glades Road due to concerns about the safety of nearby traffic, and GPD said it passed information about the suspect to other law enforcement agencies.
Bob Stahlke, the public information officer for the city of Sevierville, said the Sevier County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol tried to stop the suspect. Eventually, the suspect entered Sevierville and he said police officers there also tried to stop the person.
Stahlke said the suspect crashed into a Sevierville Police Department cruiser near Eastgate Road and Robert Henderson Road, then tried to run away on foot before being apprehended by authorities. The spokesperson said no serious injuries were reported, but also said general information about reported injuries was not available.
Additional information, such as the circumstances surrounding the incident in Gatlinburg and the identity of the suspect, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
