SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — The Sevier County mayor declared a day of mourning Tuesday to remember a county commissioner who died Saturday.
Sevier County Commissioner Frank Parton was 88-years-old at the time of his death.
Parton was first elected not the Board of County Commissioners in 2006 and was in the middle of serving his fifth term. Sevier County leaders said Parton was an active member of the education, steering and senior citizens committees.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Commissioner Frank Parton,” said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters. “Frank’s commitment to public service and his tireless work for the betterment of our county will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Barbara, his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him."
Parton was a lifelong sports fan and an avid fan of the Sevier County Smoky Bears and enjoyed playing golf, according to his obituary. He leaves behind his wife, Barbara, who he was married to for 26 years and dozens of family members.
According to Sevier County, the 1896 Bell atop the Historic Sevier County Courthouse will ring a solemn toll at 2 p.m. Tuesday to honor Parton's legacy. Mayor Waters ordered the Sevier County flag to remain at half staff until after his services.
Funeral services are Tuesday night at Atchley Funeral Home. The funeral procession leaves from the Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville at 10 a.m. Wednesday for an 11 a.m. graveside service.
