SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Sevier County commissioners voted unanimously Monday to fill two vacant District 5 seats after one former commissioner died in November, and another announced his resignation after he was voted to the Tennessee House of Representatives.
A release from the county said Barbara Parton would fill the seat left open after the death of her husband, Frank Parton. She was voted to District 5 Seat C, and Rick Valentine was appointed to District 5 Seat B. That seat was left open after Fred Atchley announced he would resign and serve as a state representative.
Barbara was sworn in surrounded by friends and family, according to the release. Valentine will be sworn in after Atchley's resignation becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2025. Each will serve the remainder of the term, concluding with the 2026 election. At that time, their seats will appear on the ballot.
