KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Second Harvest Food Bank is offering its 14th annual "Double Your Donation" on Dec. 5.
The annual telethon event will begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday, giving benefits to the food bank. All donations made to Second Harvest, including Giving Tuesday, through Dec. 5 will be matched by a sponsor up to $750,000.
"Gifts made to Second Harvest now through December 5th will apply to our goal of providing over 2.25 million meals to those in need," the nonprofit said. "Your donations will help us continue to deliver critical food assistance to families struggling with food insecurity."
Second Harvest said this event is crucially important as they enter a historically low donation period in the post-holiday winter months.
"Inflation has placed a heavy burden on families, particularly those already facing hardship. This day of giving is an opportunity to support your food bank in providing critical meals during the colder months. Your generosity ensures that we can continue to serve our East Tennessee neighbors and offer a lifeline to those struggling to make ends meet," said Elaine Streno, Executive Director of Second Harvest.
Second Harvest said those interested in donating can do so online at this website or by phone at (865)-243-8227.
