Scott County's only hospital reopened Tuesday as Big South Fork Medical Center, according to hospital administrators.
Pioneer Community Hospital of Scott closed in July 2016 after the previous management company filed for bankruptcy.
Florida-based Rennova Health Inc. purchased the hospital, located in Oneida, in January.
The Pioneer Community Hospital of Scott has closed before. The hospital closed back in May 2012 when the contract to operate the facility ran out.
The county couldn't reach an agreement with former operator Health Management Associates. The county then made a deal with a company called S.M. Promen to reopen the hospital not long after the closure.
The deal fell through when Promen couldn't raise the necessary funds to operate the hospital, bringing the county back to 'square one.'
The Pioneer Community Hospital of Scott reopened on Dec. 2, 2013, after it closed for about a year and a half.
Without the hospital, residents of Scott County had to drive nearly an hour to reach the closest emergency room. The closest is Jamestown Regional Medical Center, which is about 39 miles away. Google Maps estimates the drive takes about 50 minutes.
