MORGAN COUNTY, Tenn. — UPDATE (May 31): Ethan Webb, the Morgan County EMA director, said Friday the body of a man swept away on Monday was found around a mile downstream from the "Devil's Breakfast Table" in the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area.
He said the body was found by rangers with the National Park Service. He also identified the man as Wade Davis, 57.
The Morgan County Volunteer Rescue Squad previously said the man was in his mid-50s and was swept away while trying to cross the river.
Previously, he said 911 was called around 7:56 p.m. and multiple agencies responded including the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the National Park Service. According to Webb, crews searched for the man into the night on foot and with drones.
MCVRS said Obed River Park rangers and the Cumberland County Rescue Squad assisted in the search. A drone from the Wartburg Police Department and a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter flew through the area Monday and Tuesday evening.
The search was discontinued Monday night and stay discontinued until at least Wednesday morning because of fast and high water. The search resumed once the water had slowed down.
The man was with a family member when he was swept away, according to Webb.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency was in charge of the investigation.
