WATCH: Local 'Jeopardy!' champ reacts to surprise from Ken Jennings

LaFollette native Brian Henegar is heading to the annual "Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions"

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A LaFollette man who won "Jeopardy!" three times received a fun surprise Tuesday while talking with 10News Anchors Robin Wilhoit and Brittany Bailey.

Brian Henegar said that just being on "Jeopardy!" in April 2023 was a huge accomplishment for him. He's been watching the show his whole life and his mom even said he learned to talk by listening to Alex Trebek on the show.

Henegar's hometown was proud of his success. He received a plaque that declared April 12 in Campbell County as "Jeopardy! Champion Brian Henegar Day."

"Jeopardy! Champion's Wildcard" features all one, two and three-day winners from the past season. The winners of the wildcard can then compete in the "Tournament of Champions." With three wins, Henegar fully expected to play in the wildcard.

However, during his interview with Robin and Brittany, Henegar received a special message. Ken Jennings, the host of "Jeopardy!," told Henegar he was going to be skipping the wildcard round and heading straight to the Tournament of Champions to compete.

"I didn't expect this! I swear I didn't expect this," Henegar laughed after receiving this message. "I said this when I was on the show and I'll say it again, 'Are my feet still touching the ground?''
