KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A scorching weekend is in the forecast for East Tennessee, with temperatures staying in the low 90s and little rain expected. In Knoxville, people are searching for ways to stay cool.
The city offers a variety of ways people can beat out the heat. People can take trips to any of the area's quarries, or take a plunge in river. The city also offers community pools and splash pads, giving people the chance to stay cool without having to get out in nature.
At Ed Cothren Community Pool, people are already jumping into the water and having fun.
"I love the city, and I love watching the kids have time to play, and watching them have a good time," said Marissa Woods, an aquatic specialist at the pool.
The pool has already seen more than 300 people at a time on several occasions so far this season.
"Expect it to be slammed this weekend, for sure, especially since it's Father's Day. And with the heat also, the pool is a great way to cool off," said Woods. "It helps our workers get a lot of experience. We have a lot of new guards this year."
People in Knoxville can stop by the Williams Creek Community Center and Pool, Ed Cothren Pool, Elmer Brine Pool, Carl Cowan Pool or Inskip Pool to cool off.
At splash pads across Knoxville and Knox County, families are also able to escape the heat. Most splash pads are located near parks, offering families a variety of ways to relax and spend time together. It also gives people a chance to meet others, helping them find new friends.
"We are very fortunate to have this in our community," said Jessie Bradley. "It's all different sides of the community, all here together. So, it's nice to see that."
Splash pads are available at Carl Cowan Park, Powell Station Park, New Harvest Park and McFee Park. The parks and the splash pads are all free to use.
