East Tennesseans are getting the opportunity to buy a piece of local history.
Celebrated educator and civil rights advocate Sarah Moore Greene asked that her remaining home and belongings be sold and used to establish a foundation to help kids at Sarah Moore Greene Elementary School when she passed away in 2012. Those items will go on sale Friday.
Thursday evening, Cherokee Estate Sales hosted a pre-estate sale reception to allow people to see some of the items ahead of time.
One organizer says you can't quantify how important Greene was to the community.
"She was on Howard Baker's staff. Her history in activism and community support go back a long way. She was very active in her church, well loved by her church members. So it's hard to gauge how famous she was," said Kristin Bianconi.
The estate sale is Friday at the Sarah Moore Greene Residence on Linden Avenue in East Knoxville from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
