Salvation Army needs bell ringers this week

The Salvation Army has more than 70 red kettle locations in Knoxville, but doesn't have enough volunteers to staff all of them.

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteer bell ringers to finish this year's fundraising campaign.

The Red Kettle Campaign will end on Saturday. The group says its donations are actually up this year, but they still haven't reached this year's fundraising goal.

One of the reasons they are coming up short is because they don't have enough bell ringers to staff the more than 70 red kettle donation locations in Knoxville. This week, the group is struggling to staff much more than 35-40 locations/

“We’re excited that the campaign has done well this year but we still need one final push to get us to our goal,” said Knoxville Area Commander, Major David Worthy. “The red kettles are a symbol of giving and represent a tradition of caring that is passed down from generation to generation. We’re encouraging shoppers to remember their neighbors in need when they see a Salvation Army Red Kettle in the coming days and be as generous as they can by volunteering to ring a bell or by making a donation at a kettle.”

Kettles are staffed from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Bell ringing shifts are available every day through December 23 in all parts of Knoxville. Anyone interested in volunteering to ring a bell is asked to call (865) 971-4937 before 2 p.m. on Friday, December 22.
