Rural Metro: Crews respond to house fire in Mascot community Monday evening

Rural Metro said people should be conscious of the load portable heaters can put on a home's electrical system.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Rural Metro Fire said crews responded to a house fire in the Mascot community Monday evening. When they arrived at the home, crews said there were flames on the outside of the home with some smoke inside.

Rural Metro said the home was located in the 6100 block of Old Rutledge Pike. The fire was put out with a portable extinguisher and the house was ventilated, according to a release from Rural Metro. Due to the nature of the fire, power to the home had to be cut off until it could be repaired, Rural Metro said.

It also reminded people that portable heaters can place an intense load on a home's electrical system, and urged people to exercise caution while using them.
