Roane State celebrates completing the frame of new health science facility

To mark the construction milestone, Roane State hosted a ceremony to celebrate the progress made on the new facility.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Roane State Community College celebrated a milestone on Tuesday, marking progress made on the construction of its new health science facility.

The new Knox Regional Health Science Education Center will be located on Sherrill Boulevard in Knoxville, and Roane State said it recently installed the final beam of the building's frame. Crews hoisted the last beam and secured it in place on Tuesday.

The facility will be around 130,000 square feet large and will be located across from the Parkwest Medical Center, housing health science programs offered by both Roane State and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Knoxville. It is expected to welcome more than 8,000 students each year in disciplines like nursing, emergency medical services and respiratory therapy.

"One advantage is the efficiency of using resources, and the second is the reality of health care is we work as a team. It's not golf. It's not tennis. So, having people work together and train together is really a big deal," said Lynn Massingale, the co-chair of the project.

It is expected to open in the fall of 2025.
