NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The search for a missing student from the University of Missouri continues after eight days since he went missing on March 8.
Twenty-two-year-old Riley Strain was last seen on security footage stumbling around downtown Nashville, crossing 1st Avenue North to Gay Street Concourse.
According to a report from WSMV in Nashville, his cell phone last pinged off near the James Robertson Parkway bridge close to the Cumberland River, where law enforcement has been focusing their search efforts.
On Saturday, Nashville emergency officials used two sonar boats, four canines, one Nashville Fire Department boat and crew, one dive team and one drone and operator. Crews used the canines to narrow down an area near the Riverfront Park, WSMV said. They also sent a team of divers into the water.
Nashville Office of Emergency Management public information officer Kendra Loney said during their search nothing conclusive was located.
"Emergency officials wrapped up their search around 2:30 p.m.," Loney said. "Officials said they would not continue their search [Sunday] unless they were requested by the Metro Nashville Police Department to do."
Locals in the area have also helped with the search. The United Cajun Navy organizes search and rescue teams and has been helping search for Strain. Other people went to the river to see if there was anything they could do to help.
“All around it’s just critical that we get as much information out there as possible – even as little or minute as it seems it’s important,” Strain’s stepbrother said. “Other than that we just want to [get] him back."
