Friends and family of a Coalfield murder victim are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Jerry “Pete” McCarroll, 71, was found dead on April 18 outside of Allied Metal Recovery and Refining on Gouge Hollow Road in the Coalfield area of Morgan County. McCarroll worked at the business, and was known to carry cash that may have been the motive for the murder. Investigators believe the person who murdered him knew his schedule and routine.
McCarroll had been beaten and shot.
District Attorney General Cortney Dugger said that McCarrroll was a Vietnam veteran, a cancer survivor, and had retired from Boeing and from B&W Clinch River in Oak Ridge.

Update: April 20
Authorities believe a Morgan County man found dead outside a business earlier this week was murdered.
District Attorney General Russell Johnson's office said James Pete McCarroll, 71, had been badly beaten and shot before his death sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Monday.
He was found at the Allied Metal Recovery and Refining business on Gouge Hollow Road off of Highway 62 between Coalfield and Oliver Springs.
Authorities suspect whoever killed the 71-year-old stole several thousand dollars in cash at the time of the murder. They believe that McCarroll's body was found within minutes of his death.
Ofifcials want anyone with information or who may have observed anything out of the ordinary in the area to contact 1-800-TBI-FIND, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office or the Ninth District Attorney Generals Office.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said it is investigating a body found in Morgan County on Monday morning.
Authorities found the body alongside Gouge Hollow Road in Coalfield.
TBI is receiving assistance in the investigation from the Ninth District Attorney General and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.
TBI will submit its findings to the district attorney general for further review.
