Retired Justice Sharon Lee honored by Girl Scouts

A former Girl Scout herself, Lee highlighted the annual Trefoil Society Luncheon.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — The Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians honored retired Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee on Thursday for her service to the group.

Hundreds of community leaders, including loyal Girl Scouts young and old, gathered at the Foundry downtown for the annual Trefoil Society Luncheon. Proceeds from ticket sales go to support area Girl Scout councils.

Lee, who served 15 years on the state's high court including as chief justice, said she proudly wore the Brownie and Girl Scout uniforms while growing up in her home town of Madisonville.

While selling the world-famous cookies on her neighborhood streets, she noted to audience chuckles, she paid close attention to the customers who bought...and the customers who didn't.

Accompanying Lee at the luncheon were two granddaughters.

Before ascending to the Supreme Court in 2008, Lee was an appellate court judge and a well-known and respected attorney in East Tennessee.
