An important landmark for the town of Farragut is getting a new look while maintaining its history.
The Avery Russell House, also known as the Campbell Station Inn and Martin Russell House, sits at the corner of Kingston Pike and Campbell Station -- where it's sat for more than 180 years as a model of rural East Tennessee architecture.
The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes and was used as a hospital during the Battle of Campbell's Station in the Civil War.
The town of Farragut bought the home in 2012 and is giving it new life alongside renovating it.
Last week, crews demolished a cinder block building behind the the inn. On top of the renovations, crews are constructing a plaza next to it with bathrooms and two new driveways.
"There are two new driveways that are going to be added to give people access to the Village Green Shopping Center, and there's going to be a really nice outdoor space that people could use for public venues, and we're looking forward to it," Farragut public relations coordinator Wendy Smith said.
The town plans to host several open houses in the coming months.
