After months of construction, REI opened its doors on Halloween, greetings its first guests.
To celebrate, the store is offering activities, events, and giveaways throughout the weekend.
The first 200 people who visit the store each day through Sunday will get a CamelBak water bottle with an REI gift card inside ranging from $10 to $100.
Doors open at 10 a.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday.
The new store is near the intersection of Papermill and Kingston Pike in Bearden. The national chain based out of Seattle sells outdoor gear for activities like hiking, camping, skiing, and kayaking.
"We pride ourselves on inspiring our customers to get outdoors and recreate in various fashions whether that be kayaking, cycling, walking the dog, or even running out on the greenways," said Shannon O'Shaughnessy-Coyne, store manager.
This is the chain's 135th store in the U.S. There are 4,500 active members in East Tennessee. They pay a one-time membership fee and get benefits and discounts.
