Reba McEntire has been selected to receive the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in December. The Honors are given to men and women in the performing arts who have made enduring contributions to American culture.
The country music great and her fellow 2018 honorees — singer/actor Cher, composer/pianist Philip Glass and jazz saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter — will be celebrated at a Dec. 2 ceremony.
The co-creators of Broadway sensation "Hamilton," writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Thomas Kail, choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and music director Alex Lacamoire will also receive special Kennedy Center Honors for their groundbreaking work.
"The world looks to America for its creative instincts and artistic courage," said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. "This year’s slate of Honorees represents the pinnacle of our nation’s originality and the rich mosaic of diverse perspectives and art forms that has come to define who we are as a people."
The event will be filmed and is scheduled to air on CBS Dec. 26.
Other country artists who have received Kennedy Center Honors include Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn.
