Public's help sought to identify dead man found near Ten Mile Creek Greenway in West Knox County

The remains were found in August 2023.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify a man whose remains were found last year near a West Knox County road.

The remains were found near the wood line the afternoon of Aug. 5, 2023, near Walker Springs Road and the Ten Mile Creek Greenway.  Homeless people walking through a field found the remains, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, or NamUs.

The man had decomposed such that he couldn't be readily identified.

The remains were taken to the Regional Forensic Center in Knoxville for further exam. It doesn't appear the man had been the victim of foul play; he had no obvious injuries that would indicate an assault, according to KCSO.

On his left leg was a tattoo of a skull, according to NamUs.

"The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Forensic Center," according to the Sheriff's Office.

A sketch has been prepared of the man's likely appearance by NamUs.

You can learn more about the body on the NamUs page here.

If you have any information, you're asked to contact KCSO Detective Jeremy McCord at 865-215-2243.
