(WBIR) - This Thanksgiving several seniors are able to spend the holiday with their loved ones at home thanks to Priority Ambulance.
'Home for the Holidays' is a program that gives nursing home residents like Betty Keith the opportunity to go home on Thanksgiving and Christmas and spend the day with their families. The service allows them safe transport home for free.
Betty was able to spend about six hours with more than twenty of her family members.
"It's incredible. She is so excited because other than that she stays in bed the whole time," said her son Jackie Lacey. "She is bedridden so it's her chance to get out and be with the family. Otherwise she wouldn't be able to do it."
Priority Ambulance's Director of Operations Dennis Rowe says this is one of the highlights of the year.
"Home is home. And being able to do that and make that happen for folks is just a wonderful thing that's heartwarming."
Priority Ambulance plans to offer this service again at Christmas. It's on a first come, first served basis.
