Power mostly restored after outages reported in some East TN counties after winter storm batters area

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Snow blanketed East Tennessee on Monday, bringing temperatures down to freezing while also creating dangerous driving conditions. The snow also led to outages in some counties.

The Appalachian Electric Cooperative said around 751 customers had lost power in Grainger County at around 7:25 p.m. after the utility's Oakland substation experienced an outage. Crews were working to locate the cause and restore power as quickly as possible, the utility said on social media.

The Powell Valley Electric Cooperative also said an outage was affecting customers in the Goins Road to Stine area in Sharps Chapel. It said around 224 customers were impacted at around 7:25 p.m.

The Lenoir City Utilities Board also reported around 322 customers without power at around 7:25 p.m. in Loudon and Lenoir City.

Power was restored to most customers across East Tennessee by 9:25 p.m. on Monday.
