SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Thousands of customers lost power in East Tennessee Friday, as high winds swept through the region along with rain.
The Sevier County Electric System said at around 5:09 p.m. that 6,924 customers were without power. At around the same time, the Greeneville Light and Power System said 2,973 of its customers were without power.
Dispatchers also said the wind blew an awning off a modular classroom at South Greene Middle School, in Greene County.
The Alcoa Electric Department reported outages affecting around 1,191 customers, while the Fort Loudon Electric Cooperative reported around 2,030 customers without power at around 5 p.m.
