COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. — The Newport Police Department said the body of a 44-year-old man was found floating in the Pigeon River.
Police responded to a call concerning the body on Wednesday, June 26. The remains were taken to the Cocke County Coroner and identified as Billy Joe Jones, according to NPD.
The police department said due to the nature of the investigation, no further details are being released at the moment. NPD asked anyone with information regarding the body to contact NPD Detective Will Garber at 423-623-5556 ext. 543.
