PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — The Pigeon Forge Fire Department said during the evening of April 8 a fire ignited and spread through an old, large, cabin-style building that was usually used by visitors during stays in the area. It was located on Oakridge View Lane, and the fire destroyed the building.
The fire department said crews responded at around 8:03 p.m. and found flames and smoke coming from the building. When they arrived, they said the structure was around 80% involved and extinguishing it proved difficult without access to typical water lines.
The fire department said the building was built before updated codes requiring structures of its kind to have sprinkler systems. The chief of the fire department, Tony Watson, said the building was around 13,00 square feet. He also said the building was a complete loss.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Sevier County Fire Marshal and has yet to be determined. No injuries were reported in the blaze.
