East Tennessee nonprofits receive more than $11,000 in grants from WBIR, TEGNA Foundation

WBIR and its parent company TEGNA partnered to help the community by supporting nonprofits that are working to improve the lives of East Tennesseans.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — WBIR Channel 10 and the TEGNA Foundation partnered to help a few of the countless organizations across East Tennessee that work to make lives better in our community.

TEGNA, WBIR's parent company, runs a foundation that supports charitable organizations in communities across the U.S. Through the TEGNA Foundation, WBIR was recently able to provide more than $11,000 in grant funding to three nonprofits that make it their mission to help others here in East Tennessee.

Second Harvest reached its $350,000 goal during its annual "Pack the Bag" campaign with the help of a $5,000 grant from the TEGNA Foundation. Second Harvest said the money it raised will help support more than 3,400 students.

Second Harvest is part of a national network that helps distribute food to feed people across East Tennessee. Its main mission is to end hunger, so it works with lawmakers and partners with other organizations to address the underlying causes of hunger.
