OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — An Oak Ridge woman and several pets are safe after a fire engulfed her home on Tuesday morning, according to the Oak Ridge Fire Department.

ORFD said crews responded to a report of a house fire on Trenton Drive just before 10 a.m. EDT where they found a woman waving from an upstairs window. Crews had to use a ladder to rescue her from the home, ORFD said.

"Meanwhile, other firefighters found the living room of the home fully engulfed in fire," the department said.

ORFD said the fire was put out and medical aid was given to the woman who was suffering from mild smoke inhalation. She was cleared by Anderson County Emergency Medical Services and did not need to be sent to the hospital.

According to the department, firefighters also rescued three cats, two dogs, a bird and a snake from within the home. ORFD said three cats and a dog were in serious condition from the smoke but were given "lifesaving medical care." All animals were then sent to the animal hospital.

"The home was significantly damaged; the occupants are being temporarily housed by the Red Cross," ORFD said.

The department said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. This story will be updated when more information is available.
