One person wounded in East Knoxville shooting, police say

The Knoxville Police Department said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. A spokesperson said the victim had "non-life-threatening" wounds.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — One person was wounded in a shooting on Asheville Highway Friday night, according to investigators with the Knoxville Police Department. 

According to a press release from the department, the shooting happened at the Kwik Pantry on Asheville Highway. Investigators said one person was found at the scene with "non-life-threatening injuries" in the leg. Police said the person was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment.

Police said they believe there was a conflict inside the store involving the victim and two men when one shot at the victim multiple times. Police said the suspects left before officers arrived on the scene. 

The release stated the investigation is in the "preliminary stages" and more information is expected to be released soon.
