ROCKY TOP, Tenn. — The city of Rocky Top wants people to know it's welcoming visitors this holiday season.
"We're just trying to get people out to know, what we have, what we do... just trying to get everybody to know what's going on down here and that we are trying really hard to bring it back," said Maria Hooks, owner of South Main Furniture and Mercantile.
Some business owners in the area are working on a project called "Revitalize Rocky Top" in an effort to bring the town back to what it was in its prime. That's what sparked the "Christmas Market Crawl" that's taking place this weekend.
"There are seven businesses that are participating, and we're open from 10 to eight tomorrow, you can start anywhere, any business," said Hooks. "They're gonna have a little postcard and they will sign that card at that business and if you go to all seven businesses and have that card signed you go into a drawing for some really awesome door prizes."
The businesses hope that events like these will bring people to the area and not only for the holidays.
"Just realize that we're here and that we're trying to revitalize Rocky Top, we're trying to, y'know, to do better," said Hooks.
But the town is hopeful this year's market crawl will be a success and that they'll be able to carry on the tradition for years to come.
"So they're as excited as we are and they've been posting it and putting it out there so we hope the first one will be huge and we'll continue to do it every year," Hooks said.
