Here's why you might hear public warning sirens in Oak Ridge next week

Throughout the week of Nov. 11, those in Oak Ridge may occasionally hear audio from individual sirens in the vicinity of the Y-12 National Security Complex.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Officials will be performing preventive maintenance on the public warning siren system in the Oak Ridge area throughout the week of Nov. 11, according to Y-12 National Security Complex officials. 

Throughout the week, people in the area may occasionally hear audio from individual sirens in the vicinity of the Y-12.

The sirens are strategically placed to notify the public in the event of an on-site emergency that has impacts beyond Y-12's boundary.
