'It's Like the Dragon on Steroids' | New Truck Restrictions on State Route 116

Tractor Trailers are no longer allowed to drive down Route 116 due to the sizing of the route.

BRICEVILLE, Tenn. — Residents in Briceville are excited about a new restriction being placed on State Route 116.

Brandy Goans, a resident of Briceville, said she has had many close calls on the road, "You could almost get a paper between the hit, and you're just scared silly to be passing the truck like that. You have to stop and there's nowhere to back up, you could be on Mikey Duncan curves, and there's nowhere for you to go and they just keep coming."

County Commissioner Tim Isbel and Shain Vowell have been working since April to stop tractor-trailers from using the road.

"Tractor trailers have been traveling this route for a while and it's been very difficult for them to stay in one lane when they come around a curve," said County Commissioner Shain Vowell.

Isbel also said some trucks struggle to stay in their lanes.

"Just like the trailers you've seen come through earlier, you can see they can't even make that turn without bringing on the other side of the road," said Isbel.

TDOT is now working to reroute the trucks that would normally take the road.

"There was an evaluation done, an analysis by TDOT to give alternate routes," Said Vowell, "It'll be a couple of weeks and TDOT will be putting up signs to let truck drivers know of the restrictions."

And residents in the Area couldn't be happier.

"I'm tickled with the restriction because it'll keep my kid safe, and not only me and my family, but everybody else too," said Goans.
