Lack of crosswalks by Aspire Park in Clinton causes concern for some community members

Some people on social media are worried about pedestrian safety after spotting kids running across Clinton Highway near Aspire Park.

CLINTON, Tennessee — Aspire Park in Clinton opened earlier in October and it's causing some controversy among parents and community members on social media.

Many people are flocking to the park to enjoy all it has to offer, and that traffic isn't just coming from cars. Plenty of people are trying to walk to the park, but there are no crosswalks. So, people are having to jaywalk across Clinton Highway — a large state route that sees plenty of traffic throughout the day.

Some community members are raising concerns about the lack of crosswalks in the area. Mark Nagi, a spokesperson with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, said the department is working on a project connecting a greenway to Aspire Park. He said part of the project would include pedestrian signals at Carden Farms Drive.

He also said there is already a traffic signal at that location, and so adding a pedestrian signal there would be the most efficient way to manage pedestrian traffic.

The intersection in question does have surrounding businesses and neighborhoods, and so he said a pedestrian crossing at that point would make it so that people trying to access the park can walk to it with ease.
