The Y-12 National Security Complex will soon be under new management.
On Friday, the National Nuclear Security Administration re-affirmed its decision to give Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC the contract to manage and operate Y-12 and the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas.
Babcock and Wilcox (B&W) previously held the contract. The NNSA picked CNS to run the facility over B&W and other bidders following last year's security breach by protesters.
B&W appealed. The NNSA re-visited its decision, and chose to stick with CNS.
"We are disappointed, as we believe our proposal, including revisions submitted after the Government Accountability Office sustained our initial protest, was the strongest choice, as originally determined by the Source Evaluation Board," said George Dudich, President, Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Inc. "We will carefully evaluate information received during NNSA's debriefing process in determining our next steps. In the interest of ensuring a transparent process, our team agreed to an open, two-part debrief and we hope that will be possible.
