The Knox County Sheriff's Office is looking for the driver of a truck that hit a railroad overpass, knocking off a beam and partially closing a heavily traveled road.

The truck, likely a tractor-trailer, hit the overpass over Central Avenue Pike at Irwin Road in North Knoxville around 8:45 am Monday morning. It knocked one piece of metal loose and damaged another. The loose piece fell onto the road.

Norfolk Southern is bringing in a crane to make repairs. An official told 10News that the piece that was knocked off is like a guardrail on a highway, important but not crucial. It's meant to take the damage and protect the structural integrity of the bridge.

A witness told officials that the driver of the truck that hit the bridge stopped briefly, but continued on.

One lane of Central Avenue Pike is still closed as the railroad makes repairs.
