The Knoxville Fire Department said crews responded to the fire at around 6:32 a.m.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knoxville Fire Department said crews spent Christmas morning putting out a fire at a North Knoxville apartment complex.

According to a news release, the fire was reported at the Broadway Court apartments, located near the intersection of Broadway and Fairmont Boulevard. It said crews were quickly able to enter the apartment and extinguish the fire.

The apartment only affected one unit located on the second floor, according to KFD. It had moderate water and smoke damage, the release said.

All residents of the apartment building evacuated when the smoke alarm sounded, and KFD said several animals were uninjured. However, KFD said a cat died in the fire.

Additional information about the fire, including information about its cause, was not immediately available. This story will be updated when more information is available.
