POWELL, Tenn. — On Wednesday, a crowd gathered at Powell Methodist Church for an event meant to both give back to the community and to celebrate a child who beat the odds twice, overcoming his second cancer diagnosis.
Noah Sileno was first diagnosed with B-cell acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was 3 years old. It's a kind of cancer that affects blood and bone marrow, disrupting the body's ability to produce healthy cells. In November 2020, he finished more than two years of chemotherapy.
However, he started chemotherapy again after a second diagnosis in October 2021. Around two years after that second diagnosis, he took the final treatment at Powell Methodist Church.
The moment was marked by a blood drive organized by MEDIC Regional Blood Center. The church said every credit received at the blood drive would be given to oncology children at the East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
The blood drive lasted from 1 p.m. through 7 p.m., and Noah took his final cancer treatment at around 5:30 p.m.
