The City of Knoxville said its new public dock at Volunteer Landing has opened.
The original dock was built in 1982 for the World's Fair and was damaged by a boater last fall.
The new dock is 360 feet long, 8 feet wide, and is free to be used by anyone for the day.
The project cost $270,000. TWRA grants covered 75 percent of that cost and the city covered the other 25 percent.
"These docks are pretty important from a tourism standpoint. Not only to the city, but to restaurants and visitors that come down to Volunteer Landing," City of Knoxville Deputy Chief of Operations Chip Barry said.
Visit Knoxville and other groups around the city use the docks to hold events on the water ways as well.
The docks, which also double as overflow docks for the Vol Navy, are not meant for overnight or long-term mooring.
