KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville has announced new details about its 612 Expansion project.
According to a release, the purchase of the top floor of the theatre's next-door building at 612 South Gay Street was closed on Sep. 10. The theatre bought the first four floors of that building back in January 2019, and announced renovation plans earlier this year in March.
The 612 Expansion Project will include an enlargement of the theatre's amenities and a renovation of the current property. Plans include more concessions, restrooms, entertainment spaces and more. Simultaneously, the theatre hopes to honor the historical significance of the original 612 building.
The recent purchase of the top floor allows the site to explore opportunities for the highest and best use of the building, as well as the advancement of the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation's nonprofit mission, executive director of the Tennessee Theatre Becky Hancock said.
The theatre will remain open during construction and more details will be released in the coming weeks. For more information about the 612 Expansion Project and the history of the building, click here.
