ALCOA, Tenn. — Blount County leaders gathered on Friday to break ground on a new greenway trail route in Alcoa. The City of Alcoa said on social media the Industrial Development Board of Blount County broke ground on the trail, formally starting construction.
The social media post also said the new route would be known as the "DENSO Greenway Trail," connecting the Louisville Road greenway trail to Middlesettlements Road, near the company's manufacturing site.
It would also be built near the Clover Ridge community and several apartment complexes, according to an image shared on social media by the City of Alcoa.
The City of Alcoa also warned drivers to expect lane closures and possible delays in the areas while workers build the greenway trail.
Blount County leaders previously said they were working to expand the area's greenway system, linking them to Maryville and Alcoa to make the area more appealing to younger people and improve people's mental health, while also making the area's nature more accessible.
