2 adults and 1 child killed after house fire in Monroe County, TBI investigating

Officers discovered two adults and a child had managed to escape the house, but it was soon revealed that two adults and another child were still unaccounted for.

MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. — Two adults and one child have died after a house fire broke out in Madisonville around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, the Madisonville Police Department said.

MPD said the fire broke out in the 500 block of Old Cemetery Road, with crews receiving reports of people possibly trapped inside the home. Upon arrival, officers discovered two adults and a child had managed to escape the house, but it was soon revealed that two other adults and a child were still uncounted for.

MPD said despite efforts from officers and firefighters of MPD and the Madisonville Fire Department to rescue those trapped inside the home, the intensity of the flames blocked all attempts to reach them.

"Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the families affected by this heart-wrenching tragedy, not just today but in the difficult days ahead," MPD said.

MPD also thanked multiple other agencies for their assistance, including Monroe County EMS, Monroe County E-911, The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the 10th District Attorney General's Office, the Sweetwater Police Department and the Monroe County Rescue Squad.

MPD said the TBI will lead the investigation, with any other information being directed to TBI's Public Information Office.
