KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A motorcyclist died three days after he was involved in a serious crash in northeast Knoxville.

In a press release Thursday, Knoxville police said the 51-year-old man was involved in a crash on Sunday around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Pike and Greenway Drive. Police said the motorcyclist hit a Chevy SUV.

He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with critical injuries. Police said he died Wednesday night.

Knoxville police said the investigation found the Chevy SUV turned left into the path of the motorcycle and the motorcyclist was thrown into the roadway. Police said the light was green for both the SUV and motorcyclist.

The driver and two passengers of the SUV received minor injuries and the driver was cited for failure to yield.

The investigation is being led by KPD crash reconstruction. Once they complete their investigation, the case will be turned over to the Knox County District Attorney’s Office for review.
